For the past eight weeks at Kidzchurch we have been going to camp Iwilligoway. I have really liked it. The team leaders must have worked hard to set camp up every week because the atmosphere was wonderful. The first week we started camp we all made name tags. They were fun to make. The name tags were connected to the scarf which we had to wear when we entered camp. This is how camp looked.
Point 1, campfire: Here was where we gathered at the beginning of camp. Behind us we had a back drop that looked like a dark night in the forest. We got given clues to guess each weeks animal level. Here we also had praise and worship around a mini fake campfire.
Point 2, flag pole: Here the flag pole was set up. With every animal we had a flag. Every week someone raised a flag of that animal. The rest of the flags were hanging on the poles below.
Point 3, round up: At this point one of the team leader told us a story from the Bible. The team leader put on a special jacket so that we knew it was story time. Sometimes one of the team leaders would paint the story to make us more interested in the story and to make it easier to understand. There was a torch and a tent in the background. Usually the holy bible was there. It’s a human-sized bible about 1 metre tall. Each week there was a new bible verse in the Bible which was based on the Bible story for us to learn.
Point 4, the drill: Here was the drill area. We each collected a drill mat which we sat on while we listened to different scenarios. We had different disscussions based on these scenarios each week.
Throughout camp we have been learning About David, as God called him a man after God’s own heart. To help us understand the main message each week there was a different animal. The characteristics of each animal helped us to learn the main message of the day along with the key Bible verse.
For example the animal might be a:
- Lion
- Raccoon
- Stag
- Badger
- Dog
The animal was a sign that when we see it, it reminded us easily of the bible verse and the key messages.
During our praise and worship time we always sang one song called the 'Song of the Animals'. Each animal had its own verse and in that verse it described the qualities of that particular animal. The song was really quick and the actions were fun. I looked forward to this song every week.

Campiwilligoway’s motto is: I will live God’s way. We used stories from David’s life to learn how to live God’s way.
Camp was a very good idea and I really enjoyed it. Camp showed me how to pray, to be a better friend, that God is always with me and what to do when you think all is lost. Camp was awesome and I hope to experience something like this again in the future.
David had a heart for God and we can too.
