God's Word Is Sometimes Resisted

Recorded on Sunday, June 20, 2010

The readings for today [1 Kings 18:17-40 & 1 Kings 19:1-15a] cover the climactic events of Elijah's Ministry as a messenger of Yahweh and his battles with false prophets and one vicious enemy of the Word in Jezebel.  They reflect one template or pattern for how the ministry of God's Word is at times resisted and attacked. Christians must not be naive to this.  Francis introduces this reflection and teaching by first viewing the Word of God as the sharp double edged sword described in Hebrews 4:12.

Being A Friend Of God

Recorded on Sunday, June 13, 2010

In the context of an ALL AGE service Francis opens up two ways people commonly relate to God, either as Friends of God or as Users of God.  The message begins with some Radio-Drama to illustrate the issue and encourages listeners to relate to God as a freind seeking to know his concerns and not just see him as the solution to our own.

The Word Of God And Faith.

Recorded on Sunday, June 6, 2010

Faith comes by hearing the Word of God.  How often do you give time to simply listen for the Word of God for you?   That living word is the opportunity to respond to God in obedience and live out our friendship with the living God.  Francis considers a few examples from the readings set for the day and shares a personal experience of hearing God that has shaped his life.   The PDF is not the full text and does not include a personal testimony which can be heard on the audio file/podcast
