Becoming Sons of God

Sermon of Sunday, February 26, 2012

Preacher: Francis Noordanus

Scriptures: Mark 1:9-15

The Season of Lent calls for a focus on discipleship and its cost before the cross.  Jesus begins his Journey on earth to be the faithful son God has longed for since the fall of Adam by being baptised in the Jordan and then tested in the wilderness.  This sermon looks in depth at the brief account Mark's Gospel offers of how Jesus chose for humble solidarity with humanity before engaging the battle with his own weak human nature to ensure he was led and adequately empowered by the Spirit of Father God.  The implications of this are drawn out for those who follow Jesus as fellow 'Sons of God'.
