Discipleship 10 / Beatitude I

Sermon of Sunday, April 21, 2013

Preacher: Francis Noordanus

Scriptures: Matthew 5:11-12

The series comes to conclusion with the ninth beatitude.  Francis marks Jesus' shift from speaking in general or abstract terms to personally addressing those listening.  'When' they are persecuted for sharing his prophetic ministry they will enjoy a prophet's reward.  Time is first taken to consider what this message meant to Matthew and his community and then to 21st Century Western Christians in their rapidly de-Christianizing context.
